About the project
Our community is excitingly diverse, we speak different languages, come from different places and right now we are all going through a tough time. Bringing languages and cultures together is integral to my work and to my intention to preserve under-represented languages.
I wish to invite your children to contribute to my artistic practice exploring the richness of language by submitting artwork that reflects your household’s language/s. My hope is that it may be published into a small booklet to guarantee its longevity. It will be preserved as a permanent public reference resource for use in research, publications, exhibitions, education, lectures, broadcasting, and the internet.
Your artwork will also be considered for shortlisting as part of The Higgins Bedford contemporary Covid19 History archive, as a record of celebrating heroes from our local community

Our community is a melting pot of diversity, boasting an array of languages and cultures that are often overlooked. In these trying times, it’s important to come together and celebrate our differences, and that’s where the COVID 19 Hero Art and Languages Project comes in. This project is a collaboration between myself, Desiree Bashi, and Simone Orsolini, with the goal of exploring the richness of language through artwork submitted by children in our community.
We want to showcase the beauty of underrepresented languages, and what better way to do that than through the eyes of our children? We invite all children to contribute to this project by submitting artwork that reflects the languages spoken in their households. This artwork will be compiled into a small booklet to preserve its longevity and will serve as a permanent public reference resource for research, education, and more.
The Covid19 History Archive will house the artwork as a record of the heroes in our local community who have helped us through this challenging time. While the exhibition will initially be available online, we are exploring avenues to display it in a physical location or gallery in the future, so keep your original artwork somewhere safe just in case.
There’s no limit to the number of works you can submit, so let your creativity flow! All you need to do is email your artwork submissions along with a signed consent form to contact@desireebashi.com before the July 20, 2020 deadline. Thank you for taking part in this wonderful project and for celebrating our community’s diversity with us.
