Amidst the vibrant and diverse community at Bedford Free School, students in 4 classroom were ready to start multilingual creative writing workshop. The room was filled with the sounds of Romanian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Czech, Polish, and English, as the children explored the art of creative writing while celebrating the school’s core values of honesty, high expectations, and respect. Led by the talented Desiree Bashi, the workshop was a journey of discovery for the children, an opportunity to explore different languages and cultures through the magic of writing.
The workshop, funded by a local charity, was designed to explore creative writing techniques while celebrating the school’s core values of honesty, high expectations, and respect.
Led by the talented Desiree Bashi, she introduced the students to the magic of creative writing.
The children eagerly participated in the writing exercises, using their imaginations to explore how words can be tasted, have colors and deep meanings. They wrote in different languages, and with the help of Desiree’s translation skills, shared their creations with their classmates, marveling at the differences and similarities between different languages.
As the workshop progressed, the children learned about different forms of poetry and experimented with them, crafting their own unique verses. They practiced basic drama skills taught by Desiree and acted out their poems, bringing them to life with their energy and enthusiasm.
The workshop culminated in a performance, a celebration of the children’s creativity and the diversity of their languages and cultures. The children stood proudly, reciting their poems in their native languages.
The workshop was a testament to the power of creativity, diversity, and inclusion. It was a journey of self-discovery for the children, an opportunity to explore their identities and their place in the world. And most importantly, it was a celebration of their voices, their stories, and their languages, a reminder that in a world full of differences, we are all united by the power of our words
